THC Vape Juice Bases
The first thing you have to do before making your THC vape juice is to choose a base. When choosing a base you have three options:
- propylene glycol
- vegetable glycerin
- premixed.
When buying these bases, be sure to get food grade or cosmetic grade liquids that are labeled safe for human consumption.
Propylene Glycol
Propylene Glycol, abbreviated as PG, is more popular and is runnier than vegetable glycerin. It offers a wetter hit that interferes less with flavors and is easier to clean. However, because of its viscosity, PG will burn faster causing you to go through your vape juice faster. Propylene can also cause an allergic reaction.
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable glycerin, abbreviated as VG, is thicker, sweeter, and safer to smoke than PG. Because of its thickness, you can produce more and denser vapor. VG tends to clog atomizers more often than PG and is prone to stick to the sides of the tank and coil. Some people report a buildup of phlegm when smoking.
Vape Juice Flavoring
If you don’t like the flavor of weed and want to add some extra flavor you can add some flavor concentrates. When buying vape flavor concentrates, make sure they are made for smoking and not for food. I recommend the brands Pink Spot or Totally Wicked. Different recipes for vape juice can found in various places online, my favorite is Reddit’s subreddit, /r/DIY_eJuice.
Mixing Your Vape Juice
The first step in making either of these is to prepare an e-juice mix. For this You’ll be using part propylene Glycol (pg) and part vegetable glycerin (vg). Your mix should be 7 parts pg and 3 part vg or a 50/50 mix depending on your preference.
Extracting the THC
Now that you have your vape juice base it’s time to add the THC. There are two different ways you can do this, use an already made oil concentrate or extract it from flower buds. If you are planning to use buds expect a much longer process as most of the time will be used extracting the THC, typically this method takes about 3-4 hours in order to complete. To start let’s go over what you need to make your juice from bud, or loose shake you may have laying around.
Items Needed
- Vape Juice Solution from Above
- 3.5g of Bud
- Mason Jar
- Cheese Cloth
- Potato / Rice press
- Thermometer
Directions
- Next you’ll pour the baked herbs and e juice in a mason jar and seal it with a lid. You should use about 8 ml of ejuice, measured with a syringe, for every 1 gram of marijuana.
- Then you should bring a pot of water to 175 degrees Fahrenheit and place the jar into the water.
- After about 15-20 the jar should be swirled to mix them together.
Storing Your THC Vape Juice
When storing your THC vape juice you should consider THC degradation, family safety, and ease of use. To prevent THC from degrading, use an opaque or non-clear container that’s airtight will prevent and store it somewhere cool. If you have kids, make sure to use a child-proof container and store it somewhere they can’t reach or find it. You have the option of either pouring it out or using a dropper to fill your vape. If you plan on using your THC vape juice often, it’s probably worth it buy a dropper bottle.
