$4.5M Worth of Marijuana Seized At U.S Border At Pembina

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confiscated nearly 2,800 pounds of marijuana from a commercial straw shipment on Friday, April 23.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pembina Port of Entry confiscated nearly 2,800 pounds of marijuana from a commercial straw shipment last week. The value of the marijuana is estimated to be approximately $4.5 million.

According to a release from CBP, the shipment arrived at the Pembina Port of Entry on Friday, April 23. Area Port Director Jason Schmelz said the shipment was detected through the port's multi-layer enforcement system, which led to the referral of the truck. He praised the thoroughness of the primary officer as "phenomenal."

“This interdiction keeps narcotics from entering the United States and reinforces the important border security mission CBP officers have in keeping our country and communities safe," Schmelz said. "The teamwork involved in a seizure this large was outstanding.” Homeland Security Investigations and the Pembina County Sheriff’s Office were also contacted and responded to assist, according to CBP.
